Celebrating Black History Month

As Black History Month comes to an end we wanted to take a moment to celebrate as well as share a few Black-Owned Wellness brands that we truly love and appreciate that are Detroit-Based. All of the brands mentioned aim to create sustainable and quality products while also promoting inclusivity. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

-The Kiwa Team

iLera Apothecary is a skincare company that prides themselves in creating skincare products that are made 100% vegan with no harmful chemicals, while also being made in the USA using globally sourced ingredients. iLera Apothecary makes products that you can use to treat your face as well as your body. One of our favorite products that caught our eye is their Awaken Body Butter, according to their site it’s made to “revive your senses and bring you to a place of bliss.” It’s formulated with nutrient-dense ingredients like Grapefruit, Orange, Yuzu, and Lemon Oils. We also love that it’s 100% organic.

Leaf Me is a place where you can shop lovely plants and services to make taking care of your plants a whole lot easier; this way you can enjoy the benefits of your plants more. Leaf Me believes passionately that everyone should have a healthy relationship with the earth and plants specifically. We love that just like Kiwa, they believe that self care should be a priority “in order for us all to thrive.” Directly on their website you can schedule plant appointments where you can sign up for Care Consultation as well as other services for your plants like repotting.

Halie & Co is a jewelry brand that stemmed from Halie's love for metal-smithing! They create beautiful handmade pieces that let you express your inner creative self! Though Halie & Co specializes in jewelry, they also recently launched an amazing collection of candles made from coco soy wax! We especially love their permanent bracelets that are welded together especially for you. This makes for such a fun thing to get done with that special someone or maybe even your best friend. You can even host permanent bracelet parties with them!

"Not Sorry Goods is a sustainable lifestyle retailer that features eco-friendly apparel, upcyled + reworked vintage, and lifestyle accessories." Co-founders Dy-Min Johnson and Jess Minnick created the brand when they realized they were "done saying sorry for who we are, so we created a brand to empower us and others to be the most authentic, unapologetic versions of ourselves." With that being said, they've just described why we at Kiwa love their mission so much!

Bath Savvy's mission is to "provide the finest blends of natural handmade products while creating awareness of the benefits of using nature as a source of healing, nourishing and replenishing the skin and body." We can truly appreciate that Bath Savvy, like many of the brands above that we mentioned as well, enforce the symbiotic relationship that humans have with plants and nature. To heal is to learn from nature as well as use it to our benefit. Bath Savvy's shower bombs are one thing that we are so in love with. They're like a bath bomb except you can use it while you shower! These bath bombs contain menthol and essential oil aromatherapy that would be perfect to add into your self-care routine.
